BLNG Assistant

Voice Input

Voice input lets you dictate a prompt instead of typing it. Speak your request and BLNG transcribes it straight into the prompt input, where you can edit and send as usual.

Voice input in the prompt bar with a live waveform and the transcribed text

Dictating a prompt

  1. Click the microphone button in the prompt area. (It appears when your browser and device support voice input.)
  2. BLNG connects to the transcription service. The button narrows and shimmers while it gets ready, and turns into an ✕ so you can back out before recording starts.
  3. Once it's listening, a live waveform appears and your words stream into the input as you speak.
  4. Click the blue checkmark to finish. BLNG replaces the live text with the final, cleaned-up transcript.
  5. Review the text, make any edits, and send your prompt as normal.

While you're dictating, the prompt field is read-only so the live transcript owns the input. Finish or cancel the recording to edit by hand again.

Cancelling

To discard a recording, click the ✕ on the recording bar. Your prompt reverts to whatever it said before you started dictating, so nothing is lost. Once you've confirmed and BLNG is fetching the final transcript, both buttons go quiet for the moment it takes to come back.

Voice settings

Both settings live in the same place: the small caret on the left of the mic button opens Voice input settings.

  • Language: BLNG transcribes in the language you pick here, across 21 languages and regional variants, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese and more, with separate entries for regional variants like English (India) or Portuguese (Brazil).
  • Input device: the menu lists every microphone it can see, with a live level meter underneath so you can confirm the selected one is picking up sound. Your system default is listed first and used until you choose another.

When voice input can't start

Voice input needs microphone permission and an internet connection. Until you grant permission BLNG can't read your microphones at all, so the menu shows Allow microphone access in place of the device list; click it to trigger the browser prompt. If the mic still can't open you'll see “Microphone unavailable. Check permissions and try again.”, and if the transcription service can't be reached, “Unable to transcribe audio. Please try again.” Either way BLNG returns you to typing, so you're never blocked.
