BLNG Assistant

Touch Gestures

On iPad and iPhone you drive BLNG with touch and Apple Pencil instead of a keyboard. Navigation is a two-finger job, which leaves a single finger or the Pencil free to draw.

These gestures work anywhere on the canvas, whichever tool is active.

GestureWhat it does
Two-finger dragPan around the canvas.
Pinch (two fingers)Zoom in and out.
Two-finger rotateRotate your view of the canvas.

Drawing & Apple Pencil

  • One finger or Apple Pencil: draw, paint, and erase directly on the canvas when the Brush or Eraser tool is active.
  • Apple Pencil gives you precise, pressure-aware strokes, and it is the recommended way to sketch on iPad. See Apple Pencil (iOS).
  • Long-press the canvas to pick up the color under your finger: a magnifier follows your touch, and the color you land on becomes the brush color.
  • Two-finger tap undoes and three-finger tap redoes, from anywhere on the canvas.
  • The on-screen toolbar holds the tools and the undo and redo buttons, and its controls change with the tool you pick.

Working with objects

Tapping an object selects it and puts a transform box around it. The rest of these gestures act on what is inside that box.

GestureWhat it does
TapSelect an object or layer.
Drag (one finger)Move the selected object.
Drag a handleResize or rotate the selection.
Double-tapEdit the selected object in place, for example to start editing a text layer.

3D models

When a 3D model is on the canvas, the viewport responds to its own gestures:

GestureWhat it does
One-finger dragOrbit around the model.
Two-finger dragPan the model.
PinchZoom the model in and out.
Two-finger rotateRoll the camera.
TapToggle the model's bounding box to move, scale, or rotate it on the canvas.

In the Quad 3D view, a central lock button keeps the four panes synced so they orbit and zoom together; unlock it to adjust one pane independently. As you orbit, the camera snaps to the cardinal angles (front, side, top) with a light haptic tick.

Comparison views

Tap a generated result to open it in the Preview Pane over your canvas, then use the on-screen controls to switch between Split view, Side by side, and Stacked, dragging the splitter to adjust the divide. See Canvas & Views.

Dismissing the keyboard

The software keyboard covers part of the canvas while you type in Chat. Tap or drag anywhere outside the chat input to put it away.
